ABSTRACT
The modern advancement in nanotechnology has lead to the development of targeted drug delivery system. However, targeting a molecule to a particular site using a drug delivery system effectively requires a specialized drug delivery system. The discovery of nanosponge has become a significant step in overcoming certain problems such as drug toxicity, poor bioavailability and release of drug in a predictable manner as they can accommodate both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drug. Nanosponges is tiny sponges with a size of a virus (250nm- 1um), Which can be filled with a wide variety of a drugs. This sponges around the body untill interact with specific target site and stick on surface and releasing drug in controlled manner.
Nanosponges are highly porous having unique ability to entrap active moieties. nanosponges are non-toxic and steady at excessive temperature 300◦C. Nanosponges technology has been explored widely for the delivery of drugs for oral, topical, parenteral admistration. Nanosponges are non-mutagenic and non-allergic.
Keywords: Target drug delivery, nanosponges, hydrophilic and hydrophobic drug.
