HEALTH BENEFIT AND ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES OF MANGIFERA INDICA LEAF

ABSTRACT
In ancient times plants were so much important for medicine and treatment. Different varieties of plants and their leaves were used for remedy of disease. Now a days once again there are increasing trends of using natural products. From the discovery that effective life span of any antibiotic is limited. Plants have been used as treatments for thousands of years, based on experience and basic remedies and continue to draw wide attention for their role in the treatment of mild and chronic diseases. Mangifera indica (MI), also known as mango, aam, it has been an important herb in the Ayurvedic and indigenous medical systems for over 4000 years. Mangoes belong to genus Mangifera which consists of about 30 species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. According to ayurveda, varied medicinal properties are attributed to different parts of mango tree. Mangifera indica leaves used as astringent, refrigerant
styptic, vulnerary and constipating. They are also useful in vitiated conditions of cough, hiccup, hyperdipsia, burning sensation, hemorrhages, haemoptysis, haemorrhoids, wounds, ulcers, diarrhoea, dysentery, pharyngopathy, scorpion string and stomachopathy. The ash of burnt leaves is useful in burns and scalds.
