THE EFFECT OF PLYOMETRICS AND WEIGHT TRAINING PROGRAM ON VERTICAL JUMPS AMONG MALE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS

ABSTRACT
Background: Volleyball is a sport with an intermittent pace and characterized by frequent high intensity and short duration of motor actions (jumps, attacks, blocks) followed by periods of low intensity. Jumping ability is important ability for success in volleyball. Objective: To compare the effect of plyometric and weight training program in improving the vertical jump. Materials and method: 60 participants who fulfilled inclusion criteria were taken. They were divided into 2 groups. Group A received Plyometric training and group B received weight training program for 5 days in a week for 6 weeks. Results: The result revealed that significant improvement in vertical
jumping ability among college male volleyball players after the plyometric training protocol when compared with the weight training program. Conclusion: The study concludes that the plyometric training program can be used to improve the vertical jumping ability of the volleyball players
