ABSTRACT
Angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonists have been widely used in the treatment of various disorders such as hypertension, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and diabetic nephropathy. Over the years, various analytical methods have been developed in both biological fluids and dosage forms to estimate the desired pharmacological activity. Candesartan becomes very lipophilic with varying oral bioavailability, determination of its level in biological fluids is very important to determine the efficacy of further therapy. Potentiometric titration is an official method in Pharmacopoea. Several UV spectrophotometric, spectrofluorimetric, and electroanalytic techniques have been reported to determine the level of candesartan in formulations and bulk forms. Also, the flow analysis, high- performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC), and high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HP-TLC) method provide analysis of candesartan with several methods that are systematically optimized using an experimental design. This review provides an overview of various analytical techniques used for candesartan determination both in a single preparation and mixed with other substances.
