ABSTRACT
The objective of this study is to analyse and compare gallic acid content in marketed dental formulations with the help of high-performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method. The proposed chromatographic estimation was carried out using Cosmosil C18 (250 × 4.6 mm) SH 5.0 μm column, the mobile phase was a mixture of 0.1% ortho-phosphoric acid: acetonitrile in a ratio of 90:10 v/v with a flow rate of 1 mL/min and column oven adjusted to 28° C with injection volume 10 μL. The ultraviolet (UV) detection was carried out at 272 nm. The retention time of gallic acid was found to be 4.528 ± 0.2 min respectively. Calibration curves of gallic acid was linear over the tested concentration range of 0.5 to 15μg/mL. The results indicate that the method is useful for standardization and comparative determination of gallic acid content in dental formulations and this method can be performed with ease.
