ABSTRACT

The herbal cosmetics are the preparations containing phytochemical from a variety of botanical sources, which influences the functions of skin and provide nutrients necessary for the healthy skin or hair. The aim of present study was to prepare, optimize & evaluate herbal cream containing Aloe vera & lycopene obtained from Aloe barbadensis and from Lycopersicon esculentum M respectively. Both Aloe-vera and Lycopene have sufficient partition coeficients to being formulated in the form of cream. The emulsions oil in water type (o/w) were formulated (F1-F7) by varying quantities of strearic acid, cetyl alcohol and almond oil. All formulations were evaluated for different quality control parameters like pH, viscosity, irritancy, spreadability and acid value. All formulations were found to be non-irritant and safe for applications on skin. It was observed that formulations F5 and F6 were optimized formulations exhibit antioxidant properties & good antimicrobial activity. Thus present research results strongly indicate that formulations (F5 and F6) are non-irritant, stable and safe for applications on skin to safeguard the skin against oxidative stress caused by various extrinsic sources and bacterial infection & may gain better patient compliance.
