EFFICACY OF PILATES EXERCISE ON POSTURAL ALIGNMENT, BALANCE AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN CHRONIC STROKE PATIENTS

ABSTRACT
Background: Stroke is the sudden loss of neurological function caused by an interruption of the blood flow to the brain. Stroke is a major chronic disabling neurological disease that often permanently and partially changes the life of the person. Objective: To determine the efficacy of Pilates exercise on postural alignment, balance and quality of life [QOL] in chronic stroke patients. Materials and method: 30 participants who are fulfilled inclusion criteria were included. They were divided into 2 groups. Group A received Pilates exercise and Group B received conventional balance exercise for 60 minutes for duration of 10 weeks and 30 sessions. Results: Group A showed more
significance in improving postural alignment, balance and quality of life in chronic stroke patients with the p value < 0.05. Conclusion: This study concludes that Pilates was effective in improving postural alignment, balance and quality of life in chronic stroke patients.
