ABSTRACT
Phytoconstituents that have been obtained from plant sources are used till date due to their pharmacological actions. The effectiveness of the herbal medication is depending on the delivery effective level of the therapeutically active compound. In this herbal medication, several limitations exist because of the bioavailability, which administered is internally or externally. Phytosomes are novel techniques applied in phytopharmaceutical which contain phytoconstituents of plant or herbal extract surrounded by lipid. Most of the plant extracts having excellent bioactivity, invitro demonstrate less or no invivo actions due to water solubility and lipophilic outer layer. Hence phytosomes are
recently introduced with herbal formulations shows that better absorption, more bioavailability than the conventional plant extracts. Because of the improved pharmacological and pharmacokinetic actions, this is used to treat acute and chronic liver diseases and therapeutically used as dietary supplements. This review explains the advancements to herbal formulations and which results in enhanced bioavailability of herbal extracts.
