ABSTRACT
Aphthous mouth ulcers (aphthae) are a common variety of ulcer that form on the mucous membranes, typically in the oral cavity (mouth). Other names for aphthous ulcers comprise aphthous stomatitis and canker sores. In this review article, it is described the appearance, causes and management of the apthous ulcer. Until the etiology of chronic recurrent oral aphthous ulcers is evident, all therapeutic measures are proposed at symptomatic relief. Topical measures should be preferred as first-line therapy because of their low risk for systemic side effects.
Keywords: Apthous ulcer, aphthous stomatitis, canker sores.
