Abstract

AN OUTLOOK OF CHLOROQUINE AND HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE; IS IT A NEW PARADIGM TO FIGHT CORONA VIRUS

ABSTRACT

The pandemic coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) has pushed the global healthcare system to a crisis and amounted to a huge economic burden. Currently there are no FDA approved drugs for the treatment of COVID-19. In such a situation researchers are considering repurposing drugs as one of the viable options beyond standard care for the effective management of the disease. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are widely used antimalarial drugs that elicit immunomodulatory effects and are therefore also used to treat autoimmune conditions. This article gives a common outlook of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine and its proposed mechanism in fighting against corona virus.
