ABSTRACT
Solid oral dosage forms are the most widely used drug delivery systems by almost all age group people. Mini tablets are the new drug delivery systems in solid orals mainly developed to overcome some therapeutic disadvantages of conventional dosage forms. Mini Tablets are the novel dosage forms which are flat or slightly curved tablets, ranging between 1.0-3.0 mm in diameter which are considered as oral granules or sprinkles because both are similar in diameter (≤ 2.5 mm) and are intended for dosage administration, and these are easy to manufacture, can reduce the inter and intra subject variability. These mini tablets have a high drug loading capacity, and are very easy for coating. Moreover these mini tablets are more acceptable by children,
and elderly people. This review mainly focuses on what are all the advantages of mini tablets and how they are advantageous when compared to other dosage forms, components, production requirements, methods of manufacturing, types of mini tablets along with the excipients used, their coating, release profiles, marketed tablets, and their evaluation.
Keywords: Mini-Tablet, multiple unit dosage forms, solid dosage form, encapsulated mini tablet, pre-formulation, production requirements, granulation.
