A REVIEW ON PERSONALITY DISORDERS

ABSTRACT
Personality disorder (PD) is a deeply ingrained and maladaptive pattern of behavior of a specified kind, typically apparent by the time of adolescence, causing long-term difficulties in personal relationships or in functioning in society. It is a form of class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behavior. The abnormalities are seen in frontal, parietal and temporal lobes which is caused by perinatal injury, encephalitis, trauma and genetics. The main causes of PD are Genetics and Inheritance, Family Circumstances, Childhood trauma, Verbal abuse. The Borderline PD and Antisocial PD are most common. The Diagnosis was done based on DSM V criteria. Treatment includes both Psychosocial therapy (behavioral and cognitive therapy) and pharmacotherapy.
