Shivendra Agarwal*, Girendra Kumar Gautam Neetu Rajpoot

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus and is a severe acute respiratory syndrome. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the ongoing outbreak as a global public health emergency. Currently, the research on novel coronavirus is still in the primary stage. Based on the current published evidence, we systematically summarizes the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of knowledge surrounding COVID-19. The virus be born in bats and was conveyed to humans through yet an unidentified intermediary animals in Wuhan, Hubei province, China in December 2019. Coronavirus disease is spread by inhalation or contact with infected droplets and its incubation time period ranges from 2 to 14 days. Treatment is essentially supportive; role of antiviral agents is yet to be established. Prevention entails home isolation of suspected cases and those with mild illnesses and strict infection control measures at hospitals that include contact and droplet precautions. At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. This review in the hope of helping the public effectively recognize and deal with the 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), and providing a reference for future studies.
