ABSTRACT

Bioremediation is one of the best ways to uses mixed organisms to reduce, eliminate or transform the contaminants and their products which are present in soil, sediments and water. The present study was designed to isolate the bacteria from soil samples, where there was an accumulation of mercury in the soil. Further, the isolated bacteria were characterized by biochemical procedures. In the present investigation a total of 10 isolates were isolated which belongs to one species Pseudomonas putida. Effect of physic chemical parameters such as Temparature, PH and Nacl were studied in relation to the growth of the bacteria. Bioremediation studies have also been carried out with isolated bacteria such as Pseudomonas putida. It has been observed that Pseudomonas putida showed good mercury concentration and at time intervals of 24 hours. It is also been observed that utilization of sucrose and glucose as a carbon was found to be the best for Pseudomonas putida. Utilization of methionine as aminoacid source was found to be the best for species of Pseudomonas putida for the highest mercury degradation.

Keywords: Pseudomonas putida, mercury, soil sample.
