ABSTRACT
Mucoadhesive buccal drug delivery offers a direct delivery of drug to buccal cavity by means of drug –polymer interaction with avoiding pre systemic metabolism. In present study is to design and develop metronidazole buccal tablets by direct compression method. Nine formulatons were prepared by using different polymers such as HPMCK100, PVPK30, carbopol934 and ethyl cellulose as a backing layer and along with suitable excipients. Various pre and post compression evaluation parameters evaluated and concluded that all tests were passed and with in the I.P limits. From all formulation F8 formulation shows controlled and complete release of Metronidazole over a period of 7 hours containing polymer as PVPK30 and
Carbopol934 and shows 99.07% drug release.
Keywords: CP = Carbopol 934P, PVP = Poly vinyl pyrolidine, HPMC = Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, EC =Ethyl cellulose, % == Percentage, F8 = Formulation no 8, I.P = Indian pharmacopoeia.
