ABSTRACT
Plants are the major and essential source of various herbal properties. Due to the presence of major bioactive components they have been consumed in several forms. Prosopis juliflora belongs to the family Fabaceae and native to the America, Asia and Africa. In India Prosopis juliflora also known as Vilayati babul, Khejari. The plant has been used as a folk remedy for catarrh, cold, diarrhea, dysentery, excrescences, flu, hoarseness, inflammation, measles, sore throat and in healing of wounds. In the present study the pods of Prosopis juliflora has been used to estimate phenolic and flavonoid contents. Five different solvents were taken to prepare extract for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Phenols and Flavonoids have many biological and pharmacological activities, such as anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties. Results of quantitative study showed that methanoic extract had highest content of phenols (0.173487 mg GA/g), whereas flavonoid content was higher in distilled water (15.3875 mg RU/g) .The concentration of phenolic and flavonoid remained in between the range of 0.03439 to 0.173487 mg GA/g and 1.685 mg RU/g to 15.3875 mg RU/g respectively.
