ASSESMENT OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ADHATODA VASICA ON BACILLUS SUBTILLIS

ABSTRACT
Vasaka is a well-known herb in indigenous systems of medicine for its beneficial effects, particularly in bronchitis. Vasaka leaves, bark, the root bark, the fruit and flowers are useful in the removal of intestinal parasites. Vasaka herb is used for treating cold, cough, chronic bronchitis and asthma. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of three extracts of Adathoda vasica against Bacillus subtilis. Antimicrobial activity of this plant was assessed against Bacillus subtilis. Antibacterial activity was determined by using agar cup bioassay method. ethenol extract was found to be
effective against tested bacteria. Antimicrobial activity was measured at different concentrations. The present study showed significant antibacterial activity of leaf extracts of Adathoda vasica against Bacillus subtilis.
