ABSTRACT
Pandu Roga is a disease entity described in Ayurveda which has great resemblance to the clinical picture of various type of anemia (in which there is development of pallor or whitish-yellowish tinge in the body). Along with this a number of other clinical features also develop in the patients of Pandu Roga out of which some are related to Agni, while others are generalized features like dyspnoea, body pain, headache, tremor, weakness, fainting, cough, giddiness, swelling etc. This study was carried out to evaluate the correlation between clinical features and etiological factors as described in Pandu Roga in the patients of iron deficiency anemia. The aetiological factors as described in Pandu
Roga found in the patients of IDA werefound to consist of excess consumption of Lavana (food items processed in salt or with excess salt added from above, Ati tikshna (spicy), Ushna (items consumed hot as tea, coffee or spicy items), Vidagdhe anne Dwivasapna (habit of day sleeping just after eating food), Ritu vaishamya (not following the seasonal regimen) and Vega Vidharana (holding the natural urges of urination or passing flatus or stools). Krodha, Chinta, Shoka, Bhaya (psychological stress) may precipitate or even cause the Pandu Roga.
