A REVIEW STUDY ON PREVALENCE OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease is defined as the damage of kidney with structural and functional abnormalties with a decrease in Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) including abnormalties in urine and blood composition. It is an important therapeutic problem. It has become a major public health issue with an affect of 10% - 15% of the adult population and it is a non-communicable disease having an effect of 8-16% of the worldwide population, with Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity. The adults with Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, HIV, Obesity, Herbal medications and Chronic glomerulonephritis are being affected with CKD in Sub Saharan African countries. Materials and Methodology: Two studies were conducted in rural areas of Karnataka and Pondicherry and in this article the prevalence of CKD in these 2
rural areas is compared. The study1 is having a samplesize of 422 and the study2 with a sample size of 2091. Results and Discussion: In study1, among 422 people, 194 people are of age 50-59 and the percentage is 46%, 138 people are of age 60-69 and the percentage is 32.7%, 68 people are of age 70-79 and the percentage is 16% and 22 people of age 80 and above of 5.2%. In study2 among 2091 people, between 10 - 19 years 1 person is having CKD and 124 are not having CKD, between 20 - 29 years 12 people are having CKD and 497 are not having CKD, between 30 - 39 years 19 are having CKD and 481 are not having CKD, between 40 - 49 years, 27 are having CKD and 392 are not having CKD, between 50 - 59 years 18 are having CKD and 223 are not having CKD, between 60 - 69 years, 32 are having CKD and 160 are not having CKD, between 70 - 79 years, 22 are having CKD and 83 are not having CKD.
