ABSTRACT
Pharmaceutical care corresponds to the most important intervention within the practice of the pharmaceutical professional, as it is through it that one can guarantee adherence to drug treatment, identifying possible therapeutic failures, individual needs, participating in multiprofessional guidance, following the treatment from the beginning until its completion and also, not least, reducing waste and costs for the hospital. In childhood cancer treatment, this practice is even more necessary since the administration of drugs at home is a routine throughout the treatment and requires greater adherence by the family in order to take the medication correctly and at the same time so that it can occur a positive result of pharmacotherapy. The present study aimed, through a literature review with collection in databases in
National Libray of Medicine (PUBMED) and Scientific Eletronic Libray Online (SCIELO), study the importance of the practice of pharmaceutical care as part of the guidance that pediatric patients, who use oral antineoplastic agents, receive at the beginning and during cancer treatment. The present review suggests that pharmaceutical guidance is one of the most important tools within the care of cancer patients, as it is through this practice that problems related to the use of medicines at home can be identified, such as opening hours, clarifying doubts, guidance on possible adverse reactions, identification of possible drug interactions as well as reiterating the importance of taking the medication correctly.
