Abstract

BIRTH ASPHYXIA ON BABY AND MOTHER

*Dr. Rafah Naeem Arawq, Dr. Rana Naeem Irook and Dr. Hanaa Hussein Kandooh Alesmail

ABSTRACT

Background: Birth asphyxia is a major cause of perinatal and neonatal mortality and accounts for about 23% of all newborn deaths worldwide. It is common in regions where there are poor obstetric care. Data Sources: The information were extracted over a period of 12months; from 1ST May, 2018, to 29TH April, 2019 mainly from published works on this subject in Iraq. Findings: Birth asphyxia, despite recent advances in foetal and neonatal pathophysiology and monitoring technolog has remained a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in resource poor nations. New treatments for birth asphyxia are being tried, but are not yet available in iraq. Because most babies are delivered outside, most cases of birth asphyxia do not present for treatment. Conclusion: Birth asphyxia is still a major cause of neonatal death iniraq. Improvements in the socioeconomic status of iraq will improve their health seeking behaviour, and subsequently, reduce the incidence of birth asphyxia.
