ABSTRACT
Since the discovery of nalidixic acid fluorinated structural analogues of quinolones, fluoroquinolones, have been used for a wide variety of infectious diseases in therapeutic settings. They are effective against broad spectrum of microbes encompassing a wide range of gram-positve, gram-negative, mycoplasma, chalamydia and others. Fluoroquinolones are clinically indicated for urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal tract infections, respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections and many more. In need of applicability for quality control, pharmacokinetic studies and therapeutic drug monitronig various analytical methods such as titrmetric, spectroscopic and chromatographic methods have been developed and validated for the determination of flouroquinolones. The main focus of this review is to
compile the recent official and reported methods of analysis of fluoroquinolones in pharmaceuticals and biological fluids.
Keywords: Fluoroquinolones, official methods, reported methods, analysis.
