EVALUATION OF INVITRO ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES OF VARIOUS EXTRACT FROM LEAF CORDIA OBLIQUA WILLD
ABSTRACT
Objective: The study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activities of pet. ether, ethyl acetate and ethanolic extract of plant leaves of Cordia obliqua Willd. The shade dried leaves plant powder was extracted with pet. ether, ethyl acetate and ethanol by continuous hot percolation method using Soxhlet apparatus. The antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH assay, Superoxide anion scavenging activity, iron chelating activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, nitric oxide scavenging activity, FRAP assay, total antioxidant activity (phosphomolybdic acid method) at four different doses 125 to 1000 μg/ml with reference natural standard rutin respectively and total phenolic and total flavonoid content was analysed. An IC50 value was found that ethanolic extract of Cordia obliqua is more effective all antioxidant activity. These in-vitro assays indicate that this plant
extract are better source of natural antioxidant, which might be helpful in preventing the progress of various oxidative stresses.
