ABSTRACT
The plant Achyranthes aspera is commonly known as prickly chaff flower [1] and Amaranthus spinosus, commonly known as the spiny amaranth [2] both plants belongs to family Amaranthaceae has many medicinal properties. The present study is designed to evaluate the phytochemical screening and estimation of phenolic flavanoid and tannin contents in various leaf extracts of Achyranthes aspera and Amaranthus spinosus. Different solvent extractions like Chloroform, Ethyl acetate, Methanol, Aqueous we prepared by Maceration process. The collected fresh plant leaves were shade dried completely and ground into powder with mechanical grinder. The powder was passed through sieve no. 60 to get uniform powder and extraction was done by maceration process. The preliminary phytochemical analysis of Chloroform, ethyl acetate, Methanol and aqueous revealed the presence of Alkaloids, Carbohydrates, glycosides phenolic compound, flavonoids, tannin and proteins. The aqueous extract of Achranthes aspera shows more constituents, the methonolic extract of Amaranthus spinosus shows more phenolic, flavonoid, tannin contents. Aqueous extract of Achyranthes aspera shows more phenolic, flavanoid & tannin contents. Presence of phenolic, flavanoid contents reflect the medicinal properties of these plants. So, these plants can be further studied for finding potent medicinal properties.
