REVIEW ARTICLE A ROLE OF AGNIKARMA IN NETRA ROGA AND ITS CLINICAL APPLICATION

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda is one of the most ancient medical sciences of the world. It conceives and describes the basis and applied aspects of life process, health, disease and its management in term of its own principals and approaches. Through modern science has been developing advance technology and therapeutics for the diagnosis and management of different disorders, still ancient system of medicine fulfil the health care needs of the vast majority of the population. Nowadays large section of humanity globally, it shifted towards natural way of life and they have lot of expectations from Ayurveda which is not only a system of medicine rather the way of life, as it is available, toxicity
free and eco-friendly due to its holistic approach. Shalakyatantra is one of the eminent branches of Ayurveda deals with the study of functioning and diseases related to the sense organs. Amongst the senses, eye is given the most importance as once the vision is lost the, one will not be able to differentiate day, night and enjoy the beauty of nature. Around 76 diseases are being explained dealing with eye diseases. Based on 4 major methods of management such as Bheshajkarma, ksharakarma, Agnikarma, Raktamokshana. Agnikarma is superior among them and boon for local Vataj and Kaphaj Vyadhi and diseases treated by Agnikarma do not recur. It gives instant relief to the patient. An effective superior among all Para surgical procedure is Agnikarma, in which heat is transferred to the body by various dravyas. Now this Agnikarma procedure modified scientifically in the branch of ophthalmology as cauterisation, laser and radiation. The concept of Agnikarma will be discussed further.
