Abstract

LEUCAS ASPERA- PROMISING HERBAL MEDICINE FOR EPILEPSY A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Epilepsy involves a group of problem that goes ahead of seizures. Epileptic seizure is a transient paroxysm of an uncontrolled discharge of neurons. It is a symptom of disturbed electrical activity in the brain caused by a wide variety of disorders. Conventional treatment of epilepsy includes treatment with antiepileptic drugs or surgery. Various herbal medicines are also used for treatment of epilepsy. Leucas aspera is one of the promising herbal medicines for treatment of epilepsy due to presence of various constituents like flavanoids, saponins etc. Recent studies has been proved that Leucas aspera is a plant which having richest source of chemical substance with potential therapeutic and pharmacological activity for treatment of epilepsy.
