FORMULATION AND IN VITRO EVALUATION OF MICROPARTICLE CARRIER CONTAINING MEFENAMIC ACID
Anudeep Balla*, Dr. Shivanand Kalyanappa, Haarika Maddineni, Ashvini H.M
ABSTRACT Main aim of the present study was to prepare and characterize Mefenamic acid (MA) microspheres using Ethylcellulose and Eudragit RL100 as polymers by emulsion solvent evaporation method. The influence of type and concentration of polymers on retarding the drug release was tested. The resultant microspheres were evaluated for percentage yield, drug entrapment efficiency, micromeritic properties, in-vitro drug release studies and release kinetics. Results indicated that the percentage yield, drug entrapment efficiency, micromeritic properties of microparticles were influenced by varying drug and polymers ratio. The release rate of microparticles could be controlled by adjusting the combination of polymers and their ratios. IR spectroscopy and DSC studies confirmed the absence of any drug polymer interaction and further characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The in-vitro release profiles from microparticles were fitted into various kinetic models and the best fit with the highest correlation coefficient was observed in zero order plot, indicating that the predominant release mechanism was controlled release. Keywords: Mefenamic acid; Ethylcellulose; Eudragit RL 100; release rate. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
