IMPORTANCE OF KRIYAKAAL VIVECHANA W.S.R. TO STHAULYA

ABSTRACT
Shat Kriya Kaal or the six significant stages of disease formation in Ayurveda provides the knowledge of how illness originates and manifests step by step. Kriya means Actions /treatment. Kaal means Time or period. So the Shatkriya kaal means “Appropriate time periods to take actions/treatment. Each stage provides an opportunity to halt and possibly reverse the spread of the disease. The concept of Kriya Kaal, described by Sushruta in 21th chapter of Sutrasthana.[1] Sthaulya simply is increased physical Guruta of body. It is Kaphaj Nanatmaj Vyadhi.[2] Acharya Charaka described Sthaulya one among eight undesirable physical condition (Asta Nindita Purusha).[3] It is described as “Medo roga, Medovriddhi, Medasvi, Sthaulya and Ati-
sthaulya. It is very essential for early diagnosis, prognosis and for adopting timely preventive and curative measures. Before studying the pathological conditions of the body, a physician has to first study the occult function and structures of the body on the basis of Dosha, Dushya and Srotas. At that time Kriya Kaal helps the doctor to adopt line of treatment by seeing the vitiated Dosha condition by this intellect and knowledge.
