ABSTRACT
The use of nanomaterials has been important in improving human life and its environment. This research was conducted to determine the phytochemical constituents and antimicrobial activity of Orthosiphon aristatus nanoparticle and pure leaf extracts against E. coli and S. aureus. Although there rare researches on the use of O. aristatus leaf extracts; little attention is given on the use of nanoparticles.O. aristatus leaf extract and extract with Ag nanoparticles was subjected into antimicrobial activity and the potency was quantitatively assessed by
the presence / absence of inhibition zone, zone diameter and reactivity. Phytochemical screening showed that the leaf extract contained abundant amount of flavonoid, moderate amount of alkaloid and saponin and traces of glycoside. O. aristatus extracts do not show inhibition while the extract that is synthesized with Ag nanoparticle showed complete inhibition in E.coli and partial inhibition in S. aureus. O. aristatus solute obtained with refractive index of 1.3600 and absorption coefficient of 0.0000 cm-1 which conclude that the average mean size of Ag nanoparticle was 24.1 nm. However, it is recommended that the extracts be subjected using SEM and TEM for further analysis.
