ABSTRACT
As a consequence of enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions, free radicals are formed continuously in the cells and can damage cell structures and their functions. The shift in the balance between oxidants and antioxidants in favor of oxidants is termed as “oxidative stress”. Oxidative stress ends up in many pathophysiological conditions. Antioxidants can combat oxidative stress. In the present study, the assessed medicinal plant Adathoda vasica exhibited the presences of both enzymatic antioxidants like Catalase, Peroxidase and Glutathione-S-Transferase and non-enzymatic antioxidants like Ascorbic acid, alpha-Tocopherol, Caretinoids, Reduced Glutathione, etc. The level of Ascorbic acid was high compared to other non-enzymatic antioxidants.
Keywords: Antioxidants, Adathoda vasica leaves, Enzymic and Non-Enzymic Antioxidants.
