ANTICANCER POTENTIALS OF ANCIENT SIDDHA TRADITIONAL PLANTS – AN RECENT UPDATE

ABSTRACT

Siddha system of medicine was a fruitful gift of God sponsored through the great spiritual scientists called Siddhars. This system of medicine has been being practiced in South India from the ancient time. The unique nature of siddha system of medicine was a reverse pharmacology which paved a new way for new drug discovery in most of the complicating diseases including cancer. Cancer is a most threadful and life challenging diseases with its increasing its mortality rate day by day. There were so many medicines were validated for cancer but there was a struggle in fulfilling the cancer patients as well as physicians because of its adverse effects. Thus the modern World concentrate more on traditional system of medicine in order to reduce the adverse effects of alternative medicine. This review explored about 50 traditional medicinal plants with its active components, family, tamil name, common name in detailed. In this review the authors made much more efforts in collecting various research article and provide useful informations to the cancer filed for discovering new drug for the cancer patients with reduced adverse effects.
