ABSTRACT
Antibiotic de-escalation is the key tool for all antibiotic stewardship programmes. This retrospective interventional study was to highlight potential opportunities for antibiotic de-escalation in patients admitted to Medical intensive care unit in tertiary care hospital of North India from July 2018 to Sep 2018. Total 83 patient‟s case file was reviewed out of 83 patients only 46 patient‟s culture were sent, these 46 patients were included in our study in which 34(73.91%) patients were male and 12(26.09%) patients were Female. Results were compared based on treatment outcome with or without antibiotic de escalation. Conclusion: Inadequately or poorly chosen initial treatment or
inappropriate antibiotic usages are the main reason for Antibiotic Resistance. In our study, the outcome of the patient was good when de-escalation of antibiotic was performed at the right time i.e., Just after culture sensitivity reports.
