SYNTHESIS OF ?-CYCLODEXTRIN/ZNO NANOCOMPOSITES AND ITS IMPROVED ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY ON COTTON FABRIC
Subramanian Ambika and Mahalingam Sundrarajan*
ABSTRACT
Plant extracts mediated synthesis has been carried out for obtaining stable, low cost ZnO nanoparticles. ZnO nanoparticles were prepared using precursor with plant extract in a greener way. The prepared ZnO nanoparticles were mixed with β-cyclodextrin solution. The β- cyclodextrin/ZnO nanocomposites were cross-linked with cotton fabric using citric acid as cross linker. The synthesized nanocomposites and coated fabric were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with EDX and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis. The antibacterial tests were done against gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram negative Escherichia coli bacterium by agar diffusion method. Keywords: Plant extracts, Zinc oxide, ?-Cyclodextrin, Nanocomposites, Antibacterial activity. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
