ABSTRACT
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a common disorder of carbohydrate metabolism, with onset or first recognition during pregnancy, resulting in hyperglycemia of variable severity. Women with GDM have an increased risk of maternal and fetal complications during pregnancy as well as longer-term risks including in particular, offspring of mother with GDM are at risk of obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 DM and cardiovascular diseases. The present study disseminate the risk factors of gestational diabetes mellitus in Case- control study and also the association between urinary markers of gestational diabetes mellitus and non-gestational diabetes mellitus in our study
population. The study also aimed to find out the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and urinary markers with gestational diabetes mellitus patients. A total of 60 samples were screened for a period of three months. Urine samples were analysed for pH, Specific Gravity, Glucose, Protein, Bilirubin, Ketone, Nitrate & Urobilinogen by strip method. The present findings recorded the significant level of elevation in all parameters compared with case and control samples. The study also concluded that gestational diabetes mellitus should be given keen attention among pregnant ladies in order to reduce it. Utilizing medical nutritional therapy, Rapid acting insulin analogues and drugs like Glyburide and metformin will produce considerable effect in controlling GDM.
