ABSTRACT
The present study was carried out to evaluate the anticoagulant activity of aqueous and methanolic extracts of leaves of Cinnamomum tamala Nees on fresh human blood. Anticoagulant activity was evaluated by prothrombin time test (PT test). Anticoagulant activity was observed to behave in concentration dependent manner. 200μg/ml concentration of aqueous leaf extract showed significant anticoagulant activity than 200μg/ml methonolic leaf extract as compared to standard drug Heparin (50μg/ml). This could be done to preferential action towards extrinsic pathway of coagulation. Thus, in future Cinnamomum tamala Nees leaf extract could be used as a source of natural anticoagulant.
