ABSTRACT
Hyperlipidemia is major risk factor for development of coronary artery disease. Cassia absus is traditionally used in india for medicinal purposes. In this studies, the extract of hydroalcoholic solvent (80:20: ethanol: water) Cassia absus was investigated and induce in hpyerlidipemic rats. Treatment with hydroalcoholic extract (100mg/kg and 200mg/kg body weight) of cassia absus, significantly reduce the total cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides(TG) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL) and significantly increase the high density lipoprotein (HDL) level is associated with reduction oflipid profile in hyperlipidemic in rats. However, there was no change in lipid profile
serumof normal rats treated with hydroalcoholic extract (100mg/kg and 200mg/kg body weight) of cassia absus. The result suggests that hydroalcoholic extract (100mg/kg and 200mg/kg body weight) of cassia absus, has a beneficial effect in treating hyperlipidemia and may serves as a potential drug for prevention of hyperlipidemic atherosclerosis.
