ABSTRACT
The present study was performed to evaluate the antiulcerogenic activity of ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium leaves by water immersion stress induced in rats. Effect of different doses of ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium leaves, omeprazole on ulcer index were observed. In addition, the effect of low dose of ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium leaves in combination with low dose of omeprazole on the above parameters were studied. ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium (200 and 400mg/kg), omeprazole (20mg/kg) produced significant antiulcer effect. Low doses of, omeprazole and ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium did not alter above parameter significantly. Combined administration of low dose of omeprazole with ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium shows significant antiulcer effect where the reduction of gastric secreation, acidity and ulcer index with simultaneous increase in gastric pH.
Keywords: Ethanolic extract of Pterospermum acerifolium leaves, omeprazole, water immersion stress, ulcer index.
