ABSTRACT
Liposphere delivery system is suitable carrier system for the delivery of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs. It consists of particle size between 0.2-500μm. Liposphere[LS] composed of triglyceride and monoglyceride are produced by melt dispersion technique, solvent evaporation or multiple emulsion, sonication method, rotoevaporation method, microfluidizer method and co solvent method. Liposphere derived their name from lipid microspheres. They are generally used as carrier vehicle for hydrophobic drugs. This article presents the various types of lipospheres, advantages, disadvantages, applications and evaluation. The use of advanced lipid based drug delivery system [LBDDS] is a strategy to design pharmaceutical dosage forms with improved therapeutic benefits.
Keywords: Liposphere, Phospholipids, Melt dispersion, Solvent extraction, Yield of liposphere.
