ABSTRACT
Background: The term Bronchial Asthma refers to a chronic inflammatory disease that results in recurrent episodes of air flow obstructions, but is usually reversible. Asthma is often called reactive airway disease. This complex disorder involves biochemical, immunologic, endocrine, autonomic, psychosocial factors. Objective: The aim of present study was to investigate whether regular practice of Pranayama for three months can reduce the total leucocytes count, Absolute Eosinophil count and cardiovascular responses in bronchial asthma patients. Material and method: The present study included 30
Male Asthmatic patients 18 to 60 years of age. Then all patients were subjected for hematological investigation by auto-analyzer Swelab alfa Sweden and cardiovascular responses by Perloff’s method. They underwent Anulom-Vilom Pranayama, for the duration of 12 weeks. Then again underwent hematological investigation and cardiovascular responses, was measured which was found to be significantly improved. Statistically by using student ’’t‟ test. Result: Regular practice of Pranayama for 3 months significantly improved hematological and cardiovascular parameters. Conclusion: We concluded that the regular practice of Pranayama, slowly reduces the constriction of bronchial tube and increases, the capacity of bronchial tubes to a great extent and due to stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system and inhibition of sympathetic nervous system and subsequently gradually asthma can be cured. Hence they improved the quality of life in bronchial asthma patients.
Keywords: Asthma, Pranayama, Total Leucocyte count, Absolute Eosinophil Count, Cardiovascular responses.
