ABSTRACT
The need of using a sunscreen to protect humans from damaging solar radiations particularly the ultra violet (UV) rays is increasing now a days due to gradual depletion of ozone layer. In fact chronic photo damage may lead to photo aging and photo carcinogenesis. Multiple studies have confirmed that omega-3-fatty acids can be beneficial for skin. Considering the fact, omega-3fatty acids were isolated from flax seeds by urea complexation method. These are then purified and formulated as a sunscreen lotion by general formula for lotion compounding. The formulated lotion was evaluated for its organoleptic parameters and sun protection factor (SPF) by Mansur Equation. The new sunscreen lotion prepared in our laboratory has pale yellow colour with 15.2cpviscosity. the SPF values were in range of 18.00 to 19.00 indicate that the new sunscreen lotion prepared from omega-3- fatty acid of flax seeds have shown good sunscreen activity which is applicable for indian skin tone.
