ABSTRACT
The investigation was carried out to determine the possible bioactive components of leaves of Sarcostigma kleinii using LC-MS analysis. The chemical compositions of the ethanol extract of leaves of Sarcostigma kleinii (EAESk) was investigated using LC-MS HPLC Agilent Technologies 1260 Infinity MS- 6120. The study concludes that this plant is a rich source of flavanoid glycosides like 1. Protocatechuic acid, 2. Quercetin 3. Chicoric acid 4. Luteolin, and also glycosides of luteolin like Orientin, Hesperidin etc. which are the bioactive compounds justifying traditional uses The present study was also undertaken to explore oxidative stress related depression by adding H2O2 to induce toxicity in IMR32 (Neuroblastoma cells) cell line and then measuring the fluorescence after addition of dichlorofluoresceindiacetate (DCFDA).
Keywords: LC-MS, Sarcostigma kleinii, flavanoid glycosides, in-vitro antidepressant activity.
