MANAGEMENT OF SEVER’S DISEASE IN CHILDREN (CALCANEAL APOPHYSIS) – AN AYURVEDIC VIEW

ABSTRACT
Sever’s disease is a common cause of heel pain, particularly in growing children and people who are physically active. It happen when the attachment of the Achilles tendon to the growth plate becomes inflamed and causes pain. Sever’s disease or calcaneal apophysis can be coreleated with vatakantaka in ayurveda. It is explained by sushruta in the context of vatavyadhi as a painful condition of heel caused by its improper placement of foot on the ground. In this disase Vata as pradhana dosha along with anubandhi kapha. Pain in heel due to vitiated vata dosha and kantaka refers to thron which resulte in pricking pain in heel. Depending on the vyadhi laxan, the dushti of
vata, along with kapha was considered here and treatment was planned according to that. Therefore to prevent side effects, to save duration of treatment and to make it cost effective an ayurvedic line of treatment must have developed.
