Abstract

REVIEW: JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS

ABSTRACT

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a major viral encephalitis infection caused by the virus of culex. The JEV infection can be spread in particular season and also in particular temperature level. It can be spread by infected mosquitoes as well as pigs. It is found in rural and rice agricultural area. Since, it was emerged in Japan in the 1870 and it was firstly isolated in 1934 from the brain of fatal of monkey. JE has been spread across Asia and has the most important cause of epidemic encephalitis World Wide. Japanese encephalitis virus diagnosed by general examination and neurological examination. The wading birds and pig is the main carried of JE virus and it related to dengue, yellow fever and also west Nile viruses. Initially Japanese encephalitis symptoms mostly include high fever, headache and vomiting. After the next few days, change in mental state, neurological symptoms, weakness and movement disorder was developed. The virus maintains in a cycle between mosquitoes and vertebrate, hosts generally pigs and wading birds. There is no special or specific treatment is available on Japanese encephalitis disease but hospitalization and supportive care should be required. The treatment is symptomatic. The vector controlled vaccination of human population and control of amplified hosts that are help to prevent JE disease. JE virus is also controlled by medical prophylaxis and sanitary prophylaxis.
