ABSTRACT
The Red Cassia, (Cassia roxburghii), also known as the Roxburgh's cassia, and Ceylon senna it is flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. Phytochemical data about this plant has been not found before this study. The aim of this study was to determine the chemical composition and to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the leaves. Preliminary phytochemical screening of aqueous extract of Cassia Roxburghii fruit skin on revealed the presence of Carbohydrates, Amino acid, Proteins, Anthraqinone glycoside, Cardiac glycoside, Coumarin glycoside, Saponin glycoside, Tannins, Flavonoides, and inorganic elements such as Sulphate, Chloride were found. The total tannins content of indicates that aqueous extract of C. roxburghii fruit skin contains more percentage of tannic acid as compared to methanolic extract. The aqueous extract at concentration 0.25mg/ml showed 45.525% of tannins and methanolic extract contained 19% of tannins. Thin layer chromatography of different extracts was performed. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH Scavenging Free Radical activity and Metal Chelating Activity of methanolic extract of Cassia roxburghii fruit skin.
Keywords: Cassia roxburghii fruit skin, phytochemical, TLC investigation. Antioxidant Evaluation.
