ABSTRACT
Siddha system is well known for their long-standing tradition of safe and effective use, further validation of safety and efficacy using evidenced based methodologies is essential. The present evaluation was aimed to standardize the formulation Ashuwathi Chooranam (AC) through protocols of organoleptic evaluation, physicochemical, chemical and phytochemical methods; organoleptic characters like colour, odour, consistency, taste and quantitative analysis of ash values, pH value, specific gravity, solubility were revealed. The loss on drying at 105ÂșC was 8.81%, total ash value was discovered to be 2.64%w/w, water soluble ash value is 1.35%w/w, and acid insoluble ash is 0.185% w/w. The water soluble extractives and alcohol soluble extractives were analysed. The pH value is 3.53. Phytochemical like
alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, phytosterols, proteins and amino acids are present which impair insulin action, thereby perpetuating insulin resistance in PCOS. HPTLC finger print scanned at wavelength 366 nm for chloroform extract of AC. There are eleven polyvalent phytoconstituents and corresponding ascending order of Rf. values start from 0.07 to 0.88 in which highest concentrations of the phytoconstituents was found to be 15.19% and 14.61 % with its corresponding Rf. value were found to be 0.32 and 0.55 respectively. Instrumental analyses were done and the heavy metals are found to be below the detectable limits according to the AYUSH limits and the AC consists of nano size particles which is effective for absorption of drug at molecular level.
