AN AYURVEDIC APPROACH IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DE QUERVAIN’S TENOSYNOVITIS W.S.R TO MANIBANDHA SANDHIGATA VATA – A SINGLE CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
De Quervain’s tenosynovitis is a disorder that is characterised by wrist pain and tenderness at the radial styloid. It is caused by impaired gliding of the tendons of the Abductor pollicis longus and Extensor pollicis brevis muscles. It is diagnosed by positive Finkelstein’s sign.[1]
This can be paralleled with Manibandha Sandhigata Vata. The aggravated Vata takes Ashraya in Manibandha Sandhi to produce Shoola, Shotha and Stabdata.[2] In the present case study, A 31 years old female patient complaining of Shoola, Shotha and tenderness in Vama Manibandha Sandhi since 1 year, was diagnosed as De quervain’s tenosynovitis/ Manibandha Sandhigata Vata was treated under Ayurvedic principles. The Panchakarma therapies Taila Seka,
Upanaha, Basti, Lepa and Shamanoushadies has given absolute relief from the signs and symptoms.
