HERBAL PLANTS EXHIBITING ANTI-MYCOTIC ACTIVITY: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
The most common type of skin infection amongst people is fungal infection. It is increasing day by day as skin is the most exposed part of our body and is more likely to cause fungal infection which require significant attention and need to be treated otherwise it can easily spread to other parts of the body. Due to the increase incident of fungal infections in humans and the increasing side effects of the available anti mycotic drugs, among which the emergence of resistant strains, there is a need of discovery of new antifungal agents to treat fungal infection. In Ayurveda the plants which are known to pose antifungal
activity are used since ages. They have wide therapeutic range, fewer side effects, eco-friendly, cheaper and readily available. The aim of this study is to evaluate the antifungal activity of various plants such as- Terminalia Chebula (Haritaki fruits), Aloe Vera, Tinospora cordifolia (giloei), Azartiracta indica (Neem), Plantago Ovata (Isabgol), Glycyrrhiza glabra, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger). In the present literature review the herbal plants which possess antifungal activity were studied.
