ABSTRACT
Vishamirtha Chooranam is reputed drug mentioned in classical Siddha literature for the treatment of dog, cat, rat, snake, centipede. The aim of this present study was carried out to standardize the drug Vishamirtha Chooranam by evaluating its Organoleptic characters and Physico chemical properties. The drug was prepared as per the method mentioned in the classic Siddha literature. Organoleptic characters such as state, appearance, Nature, odor, Flow of property, and Physio-Chemical Characters like pH, Loss on drying, at 1050C, Total Ash value, Acid insoluble ash, water-soluble extractive, Alcohol soluble extractive, solubility, pesticide, Aflatoxin, Microbial Contamination, Sterility were analyzed. organoleptic character was Solid, Pale Greenish, Aromatic, Fine to Moderately coarse powder.
Physicochemical analysis of Vishamirtha Chooranam showed the pH was found to be in 6.02%, loss on drying at 1050C was 3.86 86±1.36, Total Ash value and acid soluble ash value16.67 ±0.41 and 0.246 ± 0.5Alcohol Soluble Extractive 2.6±0.55 Water soluble Extractive 21.1 ± 2.85. Vishamirtha Chooranam was soluble in water. Pesticide residue results of Vishamirtha Chooranam revealed there is no presence of Organo chlorine, Organophosphorus, Pyrethroids. Aflatoxin analysis results of Vishamirtha Chooranam revealed no presence of aflatoxin. The microbial contamination results of Vishamirtha Chooranam revealed there was absence of E coli, salmonella, pseudomonas, Staphylococcus. Sterility test results of Vishamirtha Chooranam revealed there was no bacterial and fungal contamination. The achieved results of physicochemical and phytochemicals profiling will be used as tools for authentication and standardization profile of the poly herbal formulation.
