A CASE STUDY ON DIABETIC FOOT ULCER ASSOCIATED WITH LOW PLATELET COUNT OBSERVED IN TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Background: Diabetes mellitus is the most common etiological factor of diabetic foot ulcer and it is the leading cause of death by its associated secondary complications. Diabetic foot ulcer is one of the upcoming etiology of morbidity and mortality in the current world with uncontrolled diabetes. Case Presentation: A Fifty six-year-old male patient was admitted to a hospital with the chief complaints of ulceration on his right great toe which was not healing for a week with ruptured abscesses. The pharmacotherapy was initiated with intravenous administration of Ceftriaxone 1g, Metronidazole, Amikacin, Ranitidine, Tab. Seratopeptidase 10mg, Tab. Paracetamol 500mg, Tab. B-complex and other supplements. Wound was washed with normal saline and the dressing was done from time to time.
Conclusion: Clinical pharmacist should engage in guiding the patients about the medications, regarding diseases and to develop treatment guidelines. Counselling on drugs with lifestyle modification and empirical therapy for antibiotics should be provided by culture sensitivity test should be carried out. Hence pharmacist plays a keen role on patient education in disease care and mental conditions.
