ABSTRACT
Pyrimidine derivatives are important heterocyclic molecules employed in the field of research and development of newer therapeutic agents. Pyrimidine is a six membered heterocyclic aromatic compound containing two nitrogen atoms at c1 and c2 position. Their derivatives are prevalent in nucleobases and numerous natural products. Most of the agents are utilized as antineoplastic, antimetabolite and antiviral agents. This research gives prime importance of antioxidant potential of the newly synthesized pyrimidine derivatives and those derivatives can be suggested to have anticancer properties. The study highlights the synthesis of a three new 1.3-dihydro pyrimidine derivatives and evaluation of their antioxidant properties by four methods (Nitric oxide
radical Scavenging assay, Iron chelating assay, DPPH radical scavenging assay, and Hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging assay). All of the compounds show good yield and significant antioxidant properties. The 4-chloro benzaldehyde derivative (7c) found to be more potent due to the presence of electronegative group present in it. Literature reviews give confirmation of the above said activities.
Keywords: Pyrimidine, antioxidant, Nitric oxide, Iron chelating, DPPH, Hydrogen peroxide.
